Guard Kyrie Irving requested a trade from his team, the Brooklyn Nets.
Local media such as ‘ESPN’ reported on the 4th (Korean time) that Irving requested a trade from the Nets club. This request came after they failed to reach an agreement to extend the contract.
Irving, who will become a free agent after this season, is said to want to leave the team ahead of the trade deadline.
Some teams have already shown interest. The Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns have already expressed interest, and the Dallas Mavericks are also set to negotiate. ESPN reported that Irving has a long-standing relationship with the Dallas club’s management, including general manager Nico Harrison and manager Jason Kidd.
Irving signed a four-year, $135.69 million contract with Brooklyn in July 2019. It wasn’t a smooth career. He was unable to digest a normal season due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) pandemic and refusal to get vaccinated against it. This season, he is recording 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists in an average of 37 minutes in 40 games. 스포츠토토
ESPN reported that Irving is seeking a four-year, $198.5 million Max contract extension. If he is traded, he is eligible for a two-year, $78.6 million contract extension with his new team. Irving is said to be wanting a team that can extend his contract with him.
Irving’s move will likely affect his teammate Kevin Durant as well. If Irving leaves the team, he is likely to rethink his relationship with the club too. Durant requested a trade last summer, but he withdrew it.
