Jung Ga-eun (Gimpo City Sports Association) and Kim Da-eun (Dongbu Middle School, Hanam) won gold medals side by side in rhythmic gymnastics at the 52nd National Youth Games.
Jung took first place in the girls’ all-around with a score of 84.250 on Thursday at Dongcheon Gymnasium in Ulsan, South Korea, ahead of Byun Jin-seo 스포츠토토 (Shinseongcho, Seoul – 81.800). Jung had an even performance, scoring 20.400 on the hoop, 23.100 on the balance beam, 20.250 on the uneven bars, and 20.500 on the floor exercise.
In the girls’ all-around, Kim Da-eun scored 24.650 on hoop, 25.550 on bars, 24.050 on beam and 22.450 on ribbon for a total of 96.700 points to win the title by 4.5 points over Seo Eun-chae (Daegu Joamjung – 92.200).
“We got off to a good start in our first competition with the active interest and support of our new president Song Ki-seop,” said Hong Chul, secretary general of the Gyeonggi-do Gymnastics Association. “We will continue to do well in artistic gymnastics.”
Meanwhile, in fencing, Gyeonggi Province won four silver and two bronze medals in the men’s sabre team event and Seongnam Girls’ Middle School in the women’s sabre team event, losing to Daejeon Maebongjung and Seoul Selection, respectively, and recorded its first ‘no gold’ in the boys’ event in 15 years.
