Liverpool are inching closer to signing World Cup winner Alexis Sanchez (Brighton & Hove Albion).
“The deal between Liverpool and McAllister is getting closer and closer,” Argentine outlet Tyc Sports reported on Sunday (April 27).
“McAllister is on the verge of moving to Liverpool and his father, who is his agent, has booked a flight to England to negotiate his son’s contract,” the outlet said.
“All that remains is to agree a transfer fee with Brighton,” it said, adding that “Liverpool are expected to pay Brighton around £70 million ($114.3 million) in transfer fees.”
McAllister, who began playing for Brighton in 2019, has developed into a world-class midfielder since arriving in the 2022/23 season.
First, he was called up to the Argentina national team for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he starred in the midfield as Argentina won their first ever World Cup title.
His performances at the World Cup carried over to the Premier League. This season, McAllister has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 34 league appearances, forming the core of Brighton’s midfield alongside partner Moises Caicedo.
McAllister’s form has attracted interest from Premier League giants Liverpool. After finishing fifth in the league and missing out on a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, the Reds are looking to bounce back.
The Reds decided to start with their top priority, a midfielder. Originally, Liverpool’s top midfield target was England star Jude Bellingham 안전놀이터 (Borussia Dortmund), but due to the astronomical transfer fee, the Reds turned to McAllister.
With McAllister positively relishing the prospect of playing for a world-class club, it is believed to be only a matter of time before he makes the move to Liverpool.
In addition to McAllister, the Reds are reportedly looking for additional midfield reinforcements. Manuel Ugarte (Sporting) and Mason Mount (Chelsea) have been linked with a move to the Reds’ midfield.
However, Mount is currently the subject of strong interest from Liverpool’s biggest rivals, Manchester United.
Ugarte also faces stiff competition, with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Chelsea joining the race for his signature with a £52 million buyout clause.
